Item Description
First is Parrish’s 2nd cover: 11.25x16.25" “The Ladies Home Journal” for July 1896 with Parrish front cover with pretty girl wearing long dress including striped cape standing in front of large oak tree with castle in background. Issue also includes Louis Rhead back cover ad for Pearline, illustrated article on Joan of Arc, and Benjamin Harrison article “This Country Of Ours”. Second issue is 6.5x9.5" “The Cosmopolitan” with 128+ pages including ten page story “Knickerbocker Days” which includes nine wonderful Parrish illustrations for story based on life in early New York. This story would later be published in book form with the same art by Parrish. Other contents include H. G. Wells story “ The First Men In The Moon” illustrated by Hering, a two page poem written and illustrated by Rose O’Neill, and story illustrated by Dan Smith and Frederic Remington. Next magazine is 10.75x15" issue of “Colliers” for January 8, 1910 with front cover Parrish art of pretty girl sledding past woods. 28 pages includes article on “Return Of Bison”, and nicely illustrated full page obituary on artist Remington who had recently passed away. Next two are each issues of “Colliers” one for June 3, 1905 and the other May 17, 1913, each with Maxwell Parrish front covers. 1905 issue includes wonderful centerfold art by C. D. Gibson, photos of important Yacht race, and wonderful Anti-Patent Medicine Trust art by E. W. Kemble. May 17 issue includes article on the Triangle Shirt Company Fire and Pioneer photos including first uniformed policewomen Alice Wells and Aviatrix Bernetta Miller. Issues have a few handling creases here and there with some scattered dust soil and a few moisture marks. Overall group has Fine/VF appearance. Wonderful lot with some early and historic Maxfield Parrish works including very first publication of “Knickerbocker Days” and H. G. Wells “The First Men In The Moon”. Parrish’s first national magazine cover was for Harper’s Bazaar in 1895. Overall group is VG/Fine.
