Item Description
Lot of four. First is Temperance cup and saucer. 5-5/8" dia. saucer. 3.75" dia. cup. Pictures a man and woman holding banners reading respectively, "Sobriety" and "Domestic Comfort" and a centered shield picturing an oak tree and a variety of Temperance related symbols on each piece. Saucer has two small rim chips. Cup has tiny hairline on base of handle. Next is 4" dia. consomme bowl. Picturing the popular Irish temperance advocate Father Theobald Matthew with his name preaching to a group. Inside design features two beehives and appropriate slogans. Hairline around base. Surface wear on interior. Rim chip. Shows age. Last is 5x5" dia. luster bowl. Pictures a man and a woman holding banners reading "Sobriety" and "Domestic Comfort" on either side of a shield picturing a variety of Temperance related symbols. Text reads "Freedom/Temperance/Be Thou Faithful Unto Death." Four dark specks in the glaze. No chips or cracks. Luster near 100%. Exc. Four early and scarce pieces.
