Item Description
In addition to the American and Confederate flags, the Christian flag has long been used as part of the Klan's symbology. The Christian flag is composed of a red cross on a blue upper left panel with the remaining field in white. On this Klan version the red cross is on a white panel and the remaining field in blue surrounding the slogan "By This Sign Conquer." In Auction #203 we offered a much larger 26x42" flag of the same design known to have been carried in 1920s parade by a Klansman from Ephrata, PA. We don't know the history behind this 11.5x17" example but it was almost certainly used in such 1920s parades. The round pole holding the flag is 29" tall. It was slotted at the top and fabric inserted and held by three large old original staples. White areas of the loose weave fabric are lightly toned. Upper left corner has small .5x.75" hole. Also 1/8" hole by letter "Q." All else is Exc. Only example seen in this very manageable size. See great KLALIFF'S gold badge #514.
