Item Description
First is 5.5x8" one sided handbill with "An Appeal To You From (names of Martin Luther King and nine other leaders) to march on Washington Wednesday, August 28, 1963." Added text states the issues and says "We Demand" followed by six reforms. Issued by NYC office. Faint trace of a few erased pencil words and faint vertical fold. VF. First seen. See button for this event in our Cause Button section. Next is four section folder 6x9.5" closed and 9.5x24" open printed on both sides. This details events leading to April 23 (date of King's letter from Birmingham jail in 1963) 1965 march on Boston Common. Folder front is titled "April 23/For/Martin Luther King/And/Boston." Other text lists and pictures leaders and speakers, including Abernathy and King, plus Boston head of C.O.R.E. Alan Gartner, Mass. President of S.C.L.C. Rev. Virgil Wood and head of Mass. Comm. Against Discrimination Mrs. Ruth Batson. Also included is order of program, text of five "Freedom Songs", "March Instructions" and messages from Wood and M.L.K. Folder has crease and interior panel with M.L.K. photo is noticeably tanned. Obvious wear but still VG. First seen of both items.
