Item Description
21.25x27.75" poster with elegant art image by Arnold Binger has full-figure image of Miss Liberty holding “Liberty V Loan” button with man plowing in background in sunset. Text at bottom “Buy Victory Bonds/Button Merchants Ass’n of America”. Miss Liberty is depicted with one foot on her sword and her left hand holding olive branch. Bright and Exc. as linen-mounted. A Liberty Bond was a War Bond that was sold by the United States to support the allied cause in World War 1. The act of Congress which authorized the Liberty Bond is still used today as the authority under which all U. S. Treasury Bonds are issued. A fifth bond issue relating to World War 1 was released on April 21, 1919 and was exempt from all income taxes and referred to as the last of the series of five Liberty Loans. They were also called the Victory Liberty Loan on posters of the period such as this one. Superb graphics promoting not only the loans themselves, but also picturing/promoting one of the most mass produced pin-back buttons of all time.
