Item Description
Everything is c. late 1890s. Four glass paperweights range in size from 3" dia. to 2.75x4x7/8" thick. All feature nice different images of Dewey, three are photographs. One has some rose tinting accent color. Round paperweight has "Hot Springs Novelty Co. Minneapolis" maker text on underside. Two images have tiny trace of corner wear. Fine. Other two are Exc. All glass is NM. Next is 3-5/8" dia. aluminum souvenir plate with image of Dewey and text surrounding him "Souvenir Of Philadelphia National Export Exposition" with date of 1492 at top and 1899 at bottom. Trace of lt. wear. VF. Matched pair of 7" dia. china plates each have art image of Dewey with text "Dewey The Hero Of Manila" and gold accent rims. Scattered lt. wear with bit of fading to text on one plate. Typical glaze crazing but overall Fine. Next is 3-5/8x5.25" "New York Journal Dewey Celebration Handy Reference Book" soft cover with 62 pages with numerous photos and lists of events honoring Dewey on his official visit to New York City. Photo images include New York Journal buildings with "Dewey Celebration" signs and other photos include "The Columbia/The Shamrock" America's Cup sailing ships. Some cover dust soil with small piece out of upper left top of front cover and 1" diagonal piece gone from lower left corner of back cover. VG. Next is 3.75x5.25" thin cardboard folder with image of woman with parasol on front with text "A Few Useful Points For Summer Or Winter Use" and opens to reveal full set of "The Dewey Needles" with image of him at right and small pack of needles at left in "The Maine" folder with more needles attached at top. Back cover has "Winter" scene. Smaller needles are gold tipped. Trace of lt. cover dust soil, otherwise Fine/VF. 5-1/8" tall etched white milk glass bust has chips on underside of base as well as chip behind shoulder but both are not evident when piece is displayed from front. Fine. Copyright 1899 on reverse. 5-3/8" long 4-7/8" tall milk glass dish with Dewey lid has 1" stress line and .25" chip on one side. Still displays Fine. A nice grouping of Span-Am items relating to Admiral Dewey.
