Item Description
c. 1930s. 5.5x6.5x7.5" box has wonderful graphics of a mouse Big Band and dancer on center stage. Similar character design to Mickey Mouse but with longer rat like features. Complete with all inside flaps however one inside flap and top flap are loose from the box. This is the correct box for this version per directions on inside flap pertaining to toy that we have. Box shows some overall lt. aging/handling wear, but still displays Fine as loose top flaps stays in place for display. Box contains five-piece tin litho toy w/built-in key has overall size of 5.5x8.5x9" tall. Marx produced three different versions of this toy. This is variety produced without a marquee and mice band members are piano player, drummer, dancer and violinist. The piano unit is nicely detailed w/images of mice on all sides, the pianist and drummer's chairs have images of cats as does the drum head. Toy works and features great action w/all four of the mice moving as if playing instruments and dancing. Toy has just tiny scattered paint nicks and scratches. Toy was given a light coat of shellac at some point and is evident in reflected light in the form of thin lines. Overall appearance remains totally bright and glossy. Still an Exc. example of a classic wind-up.
