Item Description
7/8" with no back paper or maker's name. Surrounding his portrait is the text with lettering that condenses his title reading "K Of K Defender Of Liberty/Killed 5-6-16." Herbert Kitchener won fame in 1898 for winning the Battle of Omdurman which secured control of the Sudan, and resulted in his being given the title "Lord Kitchener Of Khartoum." He was chief of staff (1900-1902) in the Second Boer War and he played a key role in the conquest of the Boer republics. (See following three items). In 1914 at start of WWI he became Secretary of State for War and he organized the largest volunteer army the United Kingdom had ever seen. His commanding image is famous on a recruiting poster demanding "Your Country Need You!" He died in 1916 on a warship taking him to negotiations in Russia when it was sunk by a German mine. NM displaying Mint. Only example we've seen. Comes with Hake's COA.
