Auction #204 - Part II
Item numbers 1447 through 3204 in auction 204
Item Description
8” tall with flexible rubber head covering that has plastic eye lenses with metal rims, fabric-covered elastic head straps and metal filter base. Comes in original cardboard box with text on top flap, attached carrying strap. c. 1941. One of the most unusual Mickey items and an eerie reflection of the time, created due to the outbreak of WWII and desire to keep kids safe but in a kid-friendly way. English manufacturer Happynak (known for their Disney sand pails) also produced a gas mask carrying canister which is very rare. A totally different Mickey gas mask was created in the US. Lid text includes “The Special Respirator For A Small Child Is Government Property.” Box has obvious wear/aging w/staple rust. VG. Mask shows trace of aging as boxed w/bit of fraying to fabric covering of one strap but rubber remains very pliable and condition overall is quite nice for display. VF.
