Item Description
Three items. First is 19x23.5" “Akron Beacon Journal” newspaper for August 23, 1926 with 23 pages. Front page has bold headline “Valentino Succumbs In Hospital” with sub-text “Famous Actor Of Movie Land Dies Suddenly. Infection Proves Fatal After Operations For Appendicitis, Gastric Ulcers”. Complete newspaper also includes local, national, and international news along with comics page. Paper has horizontal fold through center and front page has three tears at left side which go through first few pages. Top center of front page has small address label but Near Fine appearance. Next is 6x9.25" “The Life And Loves Of Rudolph Valentino” soft cover book with 32 pages published one week after his death. Extensively illustrated with photos of his life and loves. Covers have dust soil and moisture marks. VG. Contents are Fine. Third item is 8x11.25" “The Estate Of Rudolph Valentino” soft cover catalog with 96 pages for public auctions held over several days time starting on December 10, 1926 both at the estate premises and at the Hall of Art Studios in Hollywood. Administrator was S. George Allmond and auctioneer was A. H. Weil. Frontispiece page has nice photo of Valentino in his most famous role as The Sheik. Extensive contents are well illustrated and include real estate, including two homes, automobiles, horses and dogs, furniture, paintings, antiques, personal wardrobe, studio wardrobe and properties, books. Photos include his yacht, Valentino and his dog with Avion Voisin car, and “ Medieval Spike Silver Ring”. Covers have bit of lt. tanning and trace of lt. wear around edges. VG. Contents are VF. A high quality well done catalog. Interesting group of three items issued the same year Valentino died.
