Auction #204 - Part II
Item numbers 1447 through 3204 in auction 204
Item Description
Large 13x21" die-cut cardboard. Issued to promote the 1936 Grosset & Dunlap book. Features the same great image of angry long-billed Donald that appears on the book's cover. Text reads "A Riot Of Fun And Color! The Amazing Adventures Of The New Screen Sensation Donald Duck With 14 Full Color Illustrations And Many Black And White Drawings, Drawn By The Staff Of The Walt Disney Studio-Remarkable Value At 50¢." Comes in 19x25" wood frame w/glass cover. Obvious wear and aging w/missing pieces but no restoration has been done. These are 1/5x2" piece from lower left corner and 2x5" piece at lower right corner. Moisture staining mostly to margins. 4" area at top left w/tear and crease. 3" tear at bottom. Pair of small .5" spots of missing surface paper to white bkg. around Donald. Despite this wear, all color remains strong including the red which is deep and rich. Sign is only Fair but the only example we have seen in our 45 years. While condition is not there, rarity certainly is and still a graphic display piece and a historic Donald item. By example, in 2004 we offered a similar but smaller standee for this book which was in high grade and it sold for the astounding amount of $18,000.
