Item Description
Grant/Wilson flags are much rarer than the earlier 1868 Grant/Colfax examples. No Grant/Wilson flags are shown in Hake. In Collin's Threads of History there are no name only Grant/Wilson flags (there is one pennant). The only record we found of a sale of a names only flag was by Heritage Auctions in 2008. While that example was on a probably original stick, the flag was significantly smaller than this example. The Heritage example 5x7" realized over $5,000. This example is 8x11" cotton with 36 stars and "Grant & Wilson" in large letters. Probably once nailed to a stick as there are three small holes about .5" in from the left edge. Obvious fading of red stripes and some loss of blue color from the field, but lots of color remains. The inscription remains very bold. Other than the small damage areas on the left edge, there's only small fraying of perimeter edges and a single tiny 1/16" hole by the "S" of "Wilson." Only example known to us.
