Item Description
Here is quite an historic pair of "Official Daily Program(s)." Each is 6x9" with 16 pages (including covers) in the one issued for 9/5/1901 "Presidents Day" and 12 pages for what became the assassination day 9/6/1901. Both are filled with lists of exposition events and descriptive text on many attractions and shows. Unique to the "Presidents Day" program are the front cover and next three pages detailing events and "Full Program Of President McKinley's Movements Today." This program has light vertical crease, back cover long creases by corners, small handling creases throughout and a small .5" split in the 1st paper sheet but blending well into dark area of his suit at bottom. The next day issue for 9/6/1901 has light vertical fold line but otherwise is extremely clean with much less creasing than the 9/5 issue. Because McKinley spent much less time at the exposition site, his movements occupy a list on inside front cover titled "Presidents Program For Today." Eleven timed entries detail his visit to Niagara Falls on a special train for sightseeing, luncheon, a return to railroad entrance to the exposition. The twelfth printed entry reads: "4 p.m. The President Will Arrive At The Temple Of Music, Where A Public Reception Will Be Held." Written neatly in ink just below is: "President McKinley Shot At 4:07p.m. On This The Sixth Of September 1901/L.D. Anderson/Battle Creek/Michigan." Historic and unique.
