Item Description
Lot of two 10-5/8x12” proof sheets for a series of six daily comic strips thought to have been used to promote the upcoming 1933 RKO film, “King Kong.” Bw proof sheets contain six strips showing fairly detailed plot summary of the film. King Kong is featured in all but five panels, two of which contain Kong’s hand. Strip was originally done by artist Glenn Cravath, an illustrator for magazines, newspapers and film studios. His works include Captain Video, Captain Africa, Terry and the Pirates and many others. He is historically known for his work on King Kong. He created the original art for the poster and various production items as well as this comic strip. One of only three known proof sets. The original art for these strips sold in 2007 for $17,925. Both sheets have a 12” horizontal crease running through paper but neither interfere with panels. Some lt. aging at corners, but panels retain a clean appearance and would look Exc. matted and framed. Rare.
