Item Description
©Detective Comics. First appearance of "The Crimson Avenger" on the cover. This was DC's first masked mystery man. Cover and story by Jim Chambers. Contains stories by Jerome Siegel and Gardner Fox. Art by Joe Shuster, Fred Guardineer and Bob Kane. Only five months later, Batman made his first appearance in issue 27 by Kane. Action Comics issue 7 was on the newstands at the same time as this issue and the Slam Bradley character by Siegel and Shuster bears an uncanny resemblance to Superman as well. This issue also shares the honors with Action Comics issue 7 as being the second superhero cover ever on a comic book. Cover has some lt. tanning at top but some gloss remains overall. 2.5" split at spine bottom to staple. .5" tear at top right. Small tears at top staple, but still attached. Missing .25" lower right corner. Pages are off-white to lt. tan. and all intact. Lt. soiling/tanning on back cover. Good. A good looking copy of an early issue from the dawn of superhero comics.
