Item Description
c. late 1940s made by Rite Spot Plastic Prod. 3x4/25x10" wide thin cardboard box has nice photo of Mays in race car #5 on speedway track. Box has lt. creasing and dust soil and is missing most of left side flap. Good. 9" long car has hard plastic body with aluminum wheels and rubber tires. Front and rear each have number "9" decal. Toy has lt. scattered wear but working and VF overall. Rex Mays was a AAA championship race car driver who made his debut at the Indy 500 in 1934 and won the pole in 1935, 1936, 1940 and 1948. He was killed in a crash in the only championship race ever held at the Del Mar fairgrounds in Nov. 1949.
