Item Description
2.5" deep by 18" wide by 10.75" tall to top of pipe. c.1930s, made by Jos. Schneider. Target is attached to wood base on back and has metal battery operated mechanism designed to swing figures of Popeye with and without a hat on see-saw type device. 17" wood bar pivots above the electromagnet and swings 3x3" cardboard images of Popeye. These two targets plus bowl of "Pipe" are hinged, so when they are hit, they will fall back. Popeye's pipe is intact and solid. Mechanism does function with battery in place but needs some occasional help to keep going. Bright, glossy illustrations remain on large front panel which shows Popeye, Olive Oyl, Wimpy, Olive's brother Castor Oyl and one other character wearing a top hat w/point markers. Each character has cartoon balloon w/word or phrase. Wimpy says "A Hamburger, Please." Popeye says "Blow Me Down!" Was originally issued w/spring-loaded gun and rubber-tipped darts which are not included. Displays bright, clean and Fine. From the Carl Lobel Collection.
