Copyright 1935 Fleischaker & Baum. 8.25x16.75x5.25" deep thin cardboard box has wonderful lid art of Popeye standing on dock with box of spinach behind him. Box appears totally reconstructed but has original lid attached to new lid. Lid has bit of wear around edges with 1.5" hairline crease at lower left. Fine. Contains 16" tall stuffed fabric doll with painted rubber head and composition shoes with wooden corncob pipe in mouth. Sailor hat has oil cloth brim. Shirt button has original string tag designed like box of spinach with text on one side "Spinach That Makes Pop-eye Strong" and image of Popeye on reverse saying "Blow Me Down! It's The Spinach That Makes Me Strong!" At some point head was removed from body, reinforced with cotton inside, and reattached. Head has crazing, repair to area around nose and flat spot on back. VG. Body and clothes are Fine. Hanging tag has heavy wear with tape repairs. VG. Doll is rare due to heads not holding up will over time. From the Carl Lobel Collection.
