Item Description
Five 8.5x11" paper sheets printed in bw both sides. c. early 1940s. A total of 24 pictures divided between an "A" series and "B" series were distributed individually on a weekly basis. Fronts have large art by illustrator Ted Grohs w/Junior G-Man badge pictured at lower left corner. Pictures are Series A: A-5 "Bell Airacobra P-39 U.S. Army Fighter", A-8 "Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress", A-9 "Grumman F4F-4 'Wildcat' U.S. Navy Fighter", B-7 "Hawker 'Hurricane' Day And Night Fighter" and Series B: B-9 "Boulton Paul 'Defiant' With Multi-gun Turret" both of Great Britain. Lower margin of each picture has slogan "Keep 'Em Flying On Every American Battlefront." Pictured planes are described in a bit more detail on reverse side. Lt. aging/handling wear. VF. These were free hand-out premiums for visitors to May Co. in downtown Los Angeles. Back of one also refers to the radio club that was sponsored by May Co., Los Angeles based on radio program "Captain Jack's American Junior G-Man Club" broadcast by KECA, Los Angeles. Broadcast included "Thrilling Stories/Heroes Of American History." Club was for "Young Americans With American Ideals" and acknowledged a girls' division. Club organized in March 1937. Scarce premium series.
