Auction #205 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1426 in auction 205
Item Description
The smaller piece which seems to be silvered brass is 1-3/8" picturing the exploring duo on the front above crossed rifle, oar and telescope. Back of the piece shows "U.S. Government Bldg" plus additional text. Light general wear but VF. Next is large 2.5" by nearly .25" thick heavy bronze colored medal with scene on the front of Miss Columbia embracing each explorer with an arm around their backs as all three stand watching the sunrise over the Pacific Ocean. Ribbon text below the scene is "Westward The Course Of Empire Takes Its Way." Other side of the medal has large wreath design but no engraving at the center to designate a particular awardee. Bottom rear edge has small 1/16" nick but rest of the piece is just a little on the dark side with some darker tarnish around the side rim. Still a very impressive medal. Morry Greener Collection.
