4.5" tall with lightly worn gold lettering on fabric "Souvenir/M.V.S. & S.A./9th Annual/Encampment/G.A.R./Newaygo, Mich./1897." Rare badge issued for use in this west/central Michigan town with the initials on the ribbon standing for "Michigan Volunteer Soldiers & Sailors Association." Suspended below is 1.75" highly domed double sided celluloid. Reverse has crossed American flags and name of maker "C S Cole & Co, Chicago." Front of the celluloid shows uniformed soldiers, one missing a leg and one missing an arm shaking hands with the caption left and right "Only A Few Of Us Left." Celluloid is Mint and ribbon Fine. Rare.
