Item Description
4.25x11x6” tall. Early Mickey toy c. 1931 distributed by Borgfeld (sic). Features a pair of 4” tall wood figures of Mickey and Minnie, each complete w/string tail. They are attached to a tin litho platform base with wood wheels. Top of platform features choice circus scene in early color scheme with Mickey having blush cheeks and wearing green pants. He is depicted as an animal trainer while Minnie balances atop a ball. Between them is Wienie, a dachshund which appeared in several early shorts including "Plane Crazy." Wienie is depicted stretched into a loop through which a tiger leaps. As toy moves forward, the figures do somersaults. Works but missing pull string. Underside of toy has incomplete bellows mechanism so no longer produces squeaking sound. Toy has all over moderate wear. Figures have some paint wear, Minnie has .5" hairline on one foot, few other tiny hairlines only noticeable upon close inspection. Tin base has some small stain spots and trace of oxidation at right/left ends. VG. Despite defects still a very displayable example and of this classic toy, one of the nicest distributed by Borgfeldt and it has always been a favorite of ours.
