Thanks to the original owner and consignor of this ring we now know it was offered by the The Adventures of Lucky Pup show which aired on CBS-TV in 1948, the creation of Hope and Morey Bunin. The concept of the ring was inspired by the bumbling hand-puppet villains of the shows, the magician Foodini and his dimwit accomplice Pinhead. This ring, among the very earliest television show kid's premiums, was called the Foodini Crystal Ball ring and was likely offered by sponsor Ipana Toothpaste. Foodini and Pinhead proved so popular they took over the show by 1951 and the title was changed to The Great Foodini. We've seen the ring only once before when we misnamed it. The ring base is brass with adjustable bands unmarked by any detailing. While most of the brass flashing is off, the remaining brass surfaces are extremely clean and bright differing very little in color from the original issue. Ring top has a pair of brass tabs on the underside bend up to hold a 5/8" dia. perfectly spherical cream colored plastic ball which has a deep blueish glow after exposure to the light. The ball still glows nicely and overall the ring is in Exc. condition. Very rare as the ring was offered only in the few largest television markets.
