Item Description
Each piece is about 2.5" tall and all are brass with the exception of the 3-dimensional 1947 plastic whistle decoder which has the code wheel built into one side and his clock face/wing logo pictured on the other side. The first decoder with eagle along top edge is from 1941. Second decoder from 1942 has inset actual glossy photo of Captain Midnight. This has couple of tiny emulsion marks off but still remains about 95% complete. This is scarce as manual instructed child to remove the Captain's photo so that the owner's photo could be inserted. Over the next couple of years decoders were not issued due to World War II metal restrictions. The series begins again with a beautiful Mint example from 1945. Next comes 1946 with just a little luster loss around the star and raised lettering. Next comes the whistle version. Next comes the 1948 scarce decoder with a red plastic reverse that was frequently lost. The last metal decoder is from 1949. This shows some luster loss. See following related item. A nice group with three examples in Fine, two in VF and two essentially Mint.
