Item Description
In 1914 Hiram Maxim of Hartford, Connecticut was a businessman, engineer, and inventor (most famously of the Maxim Silencer) and he was also and enthusiastic proponent of amateur radio with one of the best equipped stations in the area. As the range of signals in those days was very limited the idea occurred to him for a relay system. The start of the American Radio Relay League had its beginning at a Radio Club of Hartford meeting in April 1914. The 4.25" ribbon in this lot is noticeably aged but still in Good condition and was issued for a convention of the group August 1931 in Tacoma, Washington with text specifying "W7DK/Host." With the ribbon comes a 2.75" celluloid button with real photo of shingled building with matching designation on its upper front "W7DK." Additional text on the button reads "The Radio Club Of Tacoma, Inc." While below is the name of "R. Barnes." Left side of button has an irregular gray mark but just barely touching the building itself. Right side has 1/8" orange-ish mark. Still with full gloss. Very limited issue. Rare. First seen.
