Item Description
20" long box. c. late 1930s. Box has illustrated paper label on end w/oval photo image and text "Eddie Bergen's Charlie McCarthy - An Effanbee Play Product." Box lid shows heavy wear w/tape repairs, penciling and moisture staining. Box label has touch-ups to surface paper. VG. 20" tall wearing removable top hat. Composition head, hands and feet. Head has movable jaw and string on back. Metal wire monocle has string attached. Nicely detailed face. Charlie wears a high quality tuxedo outfit. Shirt includes mother-of-pearl-buttons, satin-like tailored top hat. Satin-like pointed lapels. White satin necktie. Pleated pants and satin piping down each pant leg. Clothes are Exc. Hat has small tear and is slightly out of shape. Fine. Typical lt. crazing to head. VF. Charlie wears 1" celluloid portrait button that has text reading "Edgar Bergen's Charlie McCarthy - An Effanbee Play Product." Button has original W&H backpaper. Exc. Overall a very nice condition example of this classic doll.
