Item Description
9" diameter lantern lays flat but extends open to a height of 16" or more. Interior base has metal holder for a candle while the top edge has a small wire handle. The inscription is printed in dark blue on two sides against an off-white bkg. accented at both top and bottom by bright purple circular accents. The blue printing of the text and design partially bled, as produced, onto the white area of the accordion folds but the lantern is in overall exceptional condition as there are no paper splits on the sides and no burn marks on the candle base. A remarkable, NM survivor from 1872. We have only been able to offer one other example of this lantern in the past, with it realizing nearly $500.
