Item numbers 1 through 1278 in auction 206
Item Description
18.5x26" poster acquired by Ted Hake during a Feb., 2010 visit with the Theodore Roosevelt Association to the Havana, Cuba museum House of Africa. The museum director gave five posters to one of the group's guides and by asking first, Hake acquired one. Transport proved a challenge and poster has scattered lt. handling wear, mostly in the form of a few small creases. Still displays clean and Exc. The "Cuban 5" were arrested by the FBI on Sept. 12, 1998 and were subsequently convicted of espionage in a Miami, FL. federal court in 2001. Their defense is that since 1990 they were monitoring Miami-based terrorist groups to prevent attacks on Cuba. They claim their actions were not directed at the US government, they never harmed anyone and never used any weapons - yet they were convicted with four receiving life terms and one receiving a 75 year term. The poster lists four websites with additional information. This is a very important issue with the Cuban government and a roadblock to more normal diplomatic relationships. Poster appears on the website www.freethefive.org along with details of plans to lobby on Capitol Hill and picket/rally at the White House April 17-21, 2012.
