Auction #206 - Part II
Item numbers 1279 through 2976 in auction 206
Item Description
22.5" dia. poster for musical comedy starring Holly Woodlawn, who is pictured in tinted photo wearing gown w/tinsel in her hair and surrounded by balloons and well-dressed men. Woodlawn, a Puerto Rican-born transgendered actress and former Warhol superstar, appeared in Warhol's 1970 film "Trash" and 1972's "Women in Revolt." In 1972 director Robert Kaplan and cinematographer Paul Glickman concocted the idea of a movie whose premise would be using a transvestite as the lead in a film w/o revealing the sex of the actress. Woodlawn played a young, starstruck girl hoping for success as an actress in New York City. The film, "Scarecrow In A Garden Of Cucumbers," was low budget and ultimately unsuccessful. The song "In The Very Last Row," written by Marshall Barer, was performed by Bette Midler. Poster notes "World Premiere Engagement - Waverly Theatre - March 15, 1972." Margins show lt. wear and poster has original adhesive strips unused on reverse. Exc. An unusual poster for an equally unusual film.
