Item Description
Each is 7/8" with W&H backpaper. These are pictured in the White & Hoag "Button Collectors" pamphlet from 1897 with an issue price of thirty-five cents for the 17 in the set. The set is very similar to the set titled "White Squadron" which follows. On the "War Ships" set the skies are in blue whereas the following set has sky area in white. Fifteen of these buttons are titled "United States War Ship" while the other two in the set are titled "U.S. Cruiser." Tiny gray mark near the top of the last button in row 3 but all others are essentially NM to Mint. A wonderful grouping showing the ships which lead to our rapid victory in the Spanish-American-Cuban War.
