Item Description
This Chicago nightclub opened in 1932 and closed in 1960. During the height of Chicago mob influence it was frequented by many recognizable mob names of the era. About 20 years before these two buttons, Lewis refused a contract from a mobster which resulted in him being assaulted and left for dead. It took him years to learn to speak again but Al Capone, who was fond of Lewis financed his recovery. Lewis toured in USO shows, appeared frequently on The Ed Sullivan Show, and was a longtime friend of Frank Sinatra. These buttons have the same identical design but one is a 1.25". This has all over scratching although it shows little except in reflected light. The larger button is 3.5" and NM displaying Mint. Each button has the club name along with "Win-Place-Show/With Joe." A rare pair.
