Auction #206 - Part II
Item numbers 1279 through 2976 in auction 206
Item Description
From 1934 in stark black and white enamel and brilliant silver luster. Band is a non-adjustable size 9 and inner surface carries symbol of the ring maker Uncas. The interior band does not say "Made In U.S.A." which was added to those rings intended for Canadian distribution. Our last Near Mint example in Auction #199 exceeded $10,000. While overall we grade this example as Fine Plus, in fact the top of the ring to the naked eye appears NM. The worst of the wear is limited to a .25" short segment at the very bottom of the ring band. A near microscopic bit of silver is off this quarter inch long narrow band and its edges are just a trifle rough to the touch. The exterior silver luster on the ring remains over 98% intact. On the ring top there are two tiny enamel flakes off the outer edge but nothing that reveals underlying metal nor is even large enough to see from about eight inches or so away. Under magnification about 15% of the silvering is off the top border and skull. Without magnification this loss is nearly invisible. Overall Fine, but displaying Near Mint. Ring comes in its original plush lined cardboard box as sent by the pulp magazine publisher Popular Publications in 1934. The box edges have red color off, the lid panels have corner splits and the box bottom has one edge split but it remains bright and clean. The Hake Pop Culture guide current values for the ring alone are: Good $2,500; Fine $6,000; VF $10,000; N. Mint $16,000. The consignor has set an extremely reasonable opening bid for a ring of this rarity. Well above average condition and complete with the box.
