Item Description
3-5/8" tall by 3-5/8" long solid cast metal ornament w/bright silver luster. Hood ornament depicts Bernice The Whiffle Hen who was introduced by Popeye creator E.C. Segar in his strip "Thimble Theatre" prior to Popeye’s introduction in 1929. The Whiffle Hen was a lucky creature and was impossible to kill, later saving Popeye’s life. c. late 1920s-early 1930s. Great pose of Bernice w/her wings in the air. Base has horseshoe, a reference to the Whiffle Hen’s lucky properties. Exc. w/near full luster which remains bright and shiny. Rare and only the second we’ve offered in our 46 years. Our last example sold for $3,061.
