Auction #184 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 952 in auction 184
Item Description
This classic 1900 campaign parade lantern is in the shape of a working man's lunch pail. Size is 6" diameter by 8 3/4" tall plus handle. The front slogan is "McKinley and Roosevelt." The rear slogan "Four Years More Of The Full Dinner Pail." Letters are comprised of 404 small circular cut-outs in the tin. Interior of tin is lined w/ very thin translucent red paper so that when interior wick (present but solitified) was lighted the words show up in red color. Of the 404 holes, only about 35 are missing the red paper making this an exceptionally intact example. Interior base has layer of black residue from use of the wick, but this causes no problem. Exterior is grey tin w/ a few traces of silvery flashing. Complete w/ swivel handle. A used, but extremely fine example of one of the classic political campaigns item icons. Great display piece and Rare.
