©1935 Fleischaker & Baum. 17" tall stuffed fabric doll w/painted rubber head (also produced in a variety w/a cloth head, see item #2192) and composition shoes w/wooden corncob pipe in mouth. Sailor hat has oil cloth brim. Printed "tattoos" on arms. Shirt button has original string tag designed like spinach crate w/"Spinach That Makes Pop-eye Strong" text on one side and image of Popeye on reverse saying "Blow Me Down! It's The Spinach That Makes Me Strong!" Tag has tape repair to string hole and scattered creasing. VG/Fine. At some point head was removed from body, reinforced w/cotton inside, and reattached. Head has crazing, small crack below nose and flat spot on back. Head is VG. Aging to white pants and hat and slight fade to black shirt but is o/w clean and Fine. From the Carl Lobel Collection.
