Item Description
7/8” without backpaper. Shows somewhat aerial view of the Civil War battleground with numerous tombstones visible as well as a tall monument. With the exception of 1896 campaign items, one of the very few dated buttons we’ve seen from the first year of button making. The date on this button matches the day of the battle 35 years earlier. It was the bloodiest single-day battle in US history and claimed in excess of 23,000 causalities. Extreme rim edge has pair of near microscopic cuts each about 1/32” and only one somewhat visible along the top edge. Rare and only example we’ve seen.
