Item Description
Hopkins began his career as a side man with the Wilbur Sweatman Orchestra but in 1925 left for Europe as the musical director of The Review Negre which starred Josephine Baker. He returned to the USA in 1927 to continue his career as jazz pianist and bandleader. He had long stays during the 1930s at the Savoy and Roseland ballrooms as well as the Cotton Club. This 1930s button has full text "I'd Do Most Anything For You/Savoy Ballroom/Sun. May 24 Claude Hopkins & His Orchestra With Orlando Robeson." A few touches of gray scattered around the yellow background color but still with total color and full gloss. Rare and only example we've seen.
