5.5x8” square-bound soft cover w/48 illustrated pages plus additional six page text list of other titles published by Harper & Brothers. Front cover has art of seasonal merry go round w/their symbolic old angel turning crank and “25¢” price. Extensively illustrated throughout by Thomas Nast, including early version of his Santa Claus outside fireplace on December page. Back cover promotes “Harper’s Periodicals” w/angel surrounded by people from all walks of life reading Harpers publications. Covers have dust soil and edge wear, back cover has creases, spine has a few splits and missing surface paper at bottom. Overall covers VG, pages VF. Wonderful art by America’s first major political cartoonist who gave us the iconic image of Santa Claus. Only published for three years, 1872-1874.
