Item Description
Fabulous design 1.25" with bw photos of Taft and Sherman set over the ears of a cartoon elephant. Bright yellow accents of date "1908" and initials "GOP." Piece has one significant but not very distracting flaw. On the button reverse, the bottom .5" of the collet became heavily rusted. This caused some discoloration of the celluloid curl at this point along with some tiny cracking of the celluloid. One area with a 1/16" crack does not show at all from the front. The second area has a y-shaped crack with each arm of the y about 1/16" long. The celluloid at this point also stands out just the tiniest bit. Thus, when the piece is viewed directly from the front there is a very tiny bump on the bottom curl edge and a dark area about 1/8" long. None of the cracking is visible to the naked eye from the front but with magnification a 1/16" hairline crack can be seen when viewed directly from the front. About 97% of the celluloid on this piece remains in the best condition possible. The celluloid covering has mirror-like gloss, the design is perfectly centered, the colors are as deep as the day they were printed. Also, the entire back other than the mentioned small area of collet corrosion is totally clean as is the W&H paper. This button carries a $9,000.00 value in Hake's 2004 Revised Prices.
