Item numbers 1278 through 3040 in auction 208
Item Description
27x41" Sack silk-screened, one-sheet movie poster for the 1935 film that starred Herman Brix as Tarzan. In the summer of 1934, Tarzan creator Edgar Rice Burroughs accepted an offer to become the fourth partner in a project called Burroughs Tarzan Enterprises, a film company whose chief business would be to promote Burroughs' works. MGM, main distributor of Tarzan films campaigned against this company, harshly blocking distribution of "The New Adventures Of Tarzan" in favor of their upcoming serial of the same name. A bit of strong-arming involved MGM threatening theaters that showed this serial w/not being allowed to show the third MGM Tarzan film and almost every big theater chose to wait for the MGM film, not showing this serial. Merchandise and advertising from this film is rare and this example is exquisite w/color tones in stylized sequence showing Tarzan fighting lion w/inset image of Tarzan holding knife standing w/Cheeta. Folded as issued, poster has some tears at fold lines and along margins w/some color touch-ups at fold crease intersections and 1" area at center right. As linen-mounted, these defects are not as noticeable and poster remains bright and bold. Displays VF.
