Item Description
Large and impressive 35x47" poster has been mounted on foamcore. 1943 U.S. Government Printing Office "Newsmap" poster prepared and distributed by Army Orientation Course/War Dept. Poster shows world map w/color-coded zones showing areas w/mosquitoes and at risk for Malaria oubreak. Poster was designed to educate young soldiers on the hazards of the disease and to prevent its outbreak. Top of poster is illustrated w/two Dr. Seuss mosquito images, one holding a large glass of blood. Text reads in part "This Is Ann...She Drinks Blood! Her Full Name Is Anopheles Mosquito And She's Dying To Meet You. Her Trade Is Dishing Out Malaria! If You'll Take A Look At The Map Below You Can See Where She Hangs Out." Text continues "Use A Little Horse Sense And You Can Lick Ann. Get Sloppy And Careless About Her And She'll Bat You Down Just As Surely As A Bomb, A Bullet Or A Shell." Text was taken from a booklet by Dr. Seuss to train soldiers/sailors during the World War II. Poster shows moderate wear/aging along original fold lines w/numerous tiny tears and two .25" holes at bottom fold crease intersections. VG overall, but still makes for a nice display as mounted (hanging hooks on back).
