Item Description
This first piece is one of the cleverest and most unusual ribbon badges we have ever seen. Segment by segment starting top to bottom is a Mint brass luster frame with reverse bar pin. Center celluloid panel reads "Detroit, 1900." Below on fabric ribbon is "American Ass'n Of Opticians." Brass link joins to a 1.5" wide oval piece of glass with frosted lettering reading "Automatic Grooved." This piece of glass is actually in two segments and a pair of oval brass fasteners hold the second glass segment which is cut out as if to represent a bi-focal lens. The entire piece is 3.25" tall. Trivial tan age on the fabric but the rest is Mint. Very limited and the only example we've seen. Second item consists of 1.25" celluloid button using an eyeball design to symbolize the convention detailed on the 2-1/8" disk of celluloid suspended below. Button has W&H back paper. Front reads "Milwaukee, Wis. July 10-11, 1907." Brass loop holds celluloid sheet with faded red but all is readable "7th Annual Convention Wisconsin Ass'n Of Optometrists." There is a place to fill in a name and inked on the rim edge is "Guest." A little bit of faint pencil traces on the celluloid disk but the button itself remains Mint. Another limited piece and first we've seen. Also see American Veterinary Medical Association 1906 badge #615.
