Item Description
Three nice rare pieces demonstrating the use of celluloid prior to the invention of the pin-back button in 1896. First is 2.75" tall and takes the form of a memo pad with celluloid covers over two paper sheets which can be written upon. Front shows young child with text "Albert Homberger, Wishes You A Happy New Year." Reverse has "Calendar For 1890." Front has near microscopic text for maker Baldwin & Gleason, one of the first printers on celluloid, and with their 1886 patent date. Clean and Exc. Next two pieces are sheets of celluloid done in a gorgeous tortoise shell colored pattern. The first seems to have slightly trimmed corners to round them off. Neatly done and hardly noticeable. This one is 3-3/8" tall. It features a calendar only for September, 1894 and states "Compliments Of Steuben County Vineyard Association, Bath, New York." Next is 3.5" tall with full 1894 calendar and text "Everyday In The Year/Advise The Use Of Platt's Chlorides/The True Disinfectant." All three display Mint.
