Item Description
Original box is 2.25x4.25x.5" deep. Lid is dusty and there is one split corner. Interior has name of Washington D.C. maker R. Harris & Co. Item is from the Sen. Charles Dick Collection and lid interior has his inked initials. Box overall is VG. The medal is 1.25" plus a fixed and moveable loop and ring at the top. Depicted is Indian with spear and raised torch standing on a cliff edge with his horse's head behind him and tiny marks representing an encampment below him. Rim text is "Calling The Allies." Reverse text reads below the organization name "The Great Spirit Ordained/Justice, Liberty And Equity For All Mankind And By Unity Of Force We Will Obtain It." Below are a pair of clasp hands each accented by a bracelet design and followed by the date "1911." Likely issued just after formation, this group advocated issues such as Indian citizenship, Indian preference in the Bureau Of Indian Affairs, and compensation for lost lands all of which eventually became law. However the organization disintegrated in 1913 because of opposition from the Society Of American Indians and negative press coverage. The medal is rare and Mint. Sen. Charles Dick Collection. See Indian buttons #624 & 851.
