Item Description
See previous lot for a discussion of this and the following lot. In 1897 the W&H button catalog "List To Date" was of 13 different. It appears "Gen. Benjamin F. Butler" was made after that catalog was printed as he is included in this group which consists of 13 of 14 known. The only missing entry is Beauregard. Twelve of these have a W&H back paper and one has a Pepsin Gum paper. Those in this group are: Custer, Grant, Lee, Butler, Stonewall Jackson, Fremont, McClellan, Sherman, Sheridan, Meade, Hancock, Logan, Miles. Custer is evenly tanned but no spotting. Miles has tan coloring over about 80%. These display extremely clean and glossy. A rare group. See next item.
