Item Description
Each button has the same design although the 7/8" has one long hairline crack barely showing. The 1.25" version is essentially Mint. Each of these buttons carries the text "A Stern Brothers Comedy" and each also includes small facsimile signature of Rube Goldberg. Goldberg had a comic strip titled "Mike And Ike-They Look Alike" and in 1927 he signed a contract with the movie company to introduce the characters on the big screen in a series of two-reel comedies. These buttons herald the advent of those comedies. A man at the left pulls back the curtain and his cartoon balloon reads "Enter Mike And Ike." The two walk arm and arm onto a stage by a sign with pointing element to the right and inscription "To Movie Fame." Although unmarked as such it is known that these were produced by Philadelphia Badge Co. Both are rare. From the Hake Collection and with Hake's COA.
