Item Description
Vintage 5x7" publicity photo has "Arthur Ashe - ProServ, Inc." text/logo at bottom margin. Ashe was a World No. 1 professional tennis player, winning three Grand Slam titles, ranking him among the best tennis players from the US. Ashe was the first black player ever selected to the US Davis Cup team and the only black man ever to win the singles title at Wimbledon, the US Open, and the Australian Open before retiring in 1980. Ashe died from AIDS-related pneumonia in 1993. Photo has been signed in blue ink "Peace, Arthur Ashe." The "Peace" inked inscription has skipped a bit, but remains legible. Upper margin has some lt. wear and photo is VF overall. Signature remains bold and Exc. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA COA.
