Item Description
2-3/8x3.75” very slightly trimmed on left and bottom edges but bottom edge text intact and reading; “Patent’d Oct. 18, 1863, S. Wing, 290 Washington St. Boston.” Tintype is about 5/8x7/8” with unbroken white paper sealing it on the blank reverse. Tintype was mounted about 1/32” off center so a hairline of space runs along the left edge. The upper edge of the tintype is also not under the mat with two tiny nicks in the paper. Opening is surrounded by 34 small and large stars. Two near microscopic black dots on upper background as made. No emulsion wear at all. A small but crystal clear and perfect image.
