Item Description
2-1/8” cardboard with front photo and text “Protection/Prosperity.” Both sides have some tanning and reverse has some specks of missing surface paper but still very largely readable with first paragraph “This Great Object Lesson Is made To Show The Wonderful Toughness And Fine Surface Of American Tin. Major McKinley Has In His Possession One Of These Canes Of Which He Is Justly Proud.” Then follows statement before a notary by officials of Ohio Lantern Co. that “All Their Tin Canes Are Made And Will Continue To Be Made During The Present Campaign Entirely Of American Tin.” Statement is dated May 22, 1896.
