Item Description
First is 8.5x11” handbill for event just 16 days after the Attica Prison riot. Poster has a few 1/16” to 1/8” tan streaks on margin but otherwise NM. Poster for event at “Central Park Mall” was “Sponsored By The United Coalition For Angela Davis Day.” The two prime demands are: “Demand Bail For Angela!” and “Indict Rockefeller For The Attica Massacre Now!” Important list of speakers reads: Rep. Ronald V. Dellums, Ossie Davis, Rep. Charles Rangel, David Livingston, Pete Seeger, Sallye Davis, Dick Gregory, State Assem. Arthur O. Eve, More” The nationwide outpouring of support led to her release on bail 2/23/72. She spent 18 months in jail but her trial acquitted her on all charges. The second poster is by the OSPAAL c. 1971-72 and is 13x21" showing Davis with hands in shackles and also with hands above her head and the shackles breaking. Titled simply "Angela Davis." Group logo of globe and automatic rifle at lower right with initials standing for Organization Of Solidarity Of The People Of Asia, Africa & Latin America. A very thin center fold line barely shows. NM. Both are from the Marshall Levin Collection. Comes with Hake’s COA.
